Sonar Language exists to help families grow bilingual together, not to harvest data. Here is what we collect, why, and what we never do.

What we collect

Your account email, the family profile you fill out (names or nicknames, roles, interests, get-to-know-you answers), practice activity (minutes, habits, streaks, course progress), and what you post in the community. Family member profiles (including children's) are entered and controlled by the parent who owns the account.

How it's used

To run the app: showing your family its progress, matching you with other families (the "in common" lines use your answers), powering pods, badges and leaderboards, and sending the reminders you turn on. Community spaces show your family's pseudonym, never your real last name. That is visible only to admins and your pod host.

Children's privacy (COPPA)

Sonar Languageis designed for families, but accounts belong to adults only. Children can't create accounts, log in, or be contacted by anyone through the app. A child appears here only as a profile their own parent or guardian creates, which is how we obtain verifiable parental consent under the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act: the parent enters every piece of information themselves and can edit or delete it whenever they like.

We practice data minimization for children: a first name or nickname is enough, we ask for an age rather than a birthdate (a birthday month and day are optional, for pod celebrations), and we never ask children for contact information, photos, or location. Other families see children's profile details only inside your pod and community spaces under your family's pseudonym, and we never use children's information for marketing, never sell it, and never share it outside the service. To review or delete everything we hold about your child, edit or remove their profile on the Profile page, or ask through the Help page and we'll erase it.

What we never do

We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't share children's information with anyone outside the service. Data lives with our hosting provider (Supabase) and is protected by per-family access rules at the database level.

Your choices

You can edit or remove family members and answers at any time, control every notification separately, and delete your posts. Want your whole account and its data removed? Ask through the Help page and we'll take care of it.
